Belfast Book Festival is now in full swing delivering the wide world of books to the city, creating ideas and bringing the joy that only the printed word can offer. See separate section in our events page. CAP is delighted to be involved with the Festival with two special Poetry in Motion events comprising of both readings and a workshop:
‘Still’ Poetry Workshop | 14th June 3pm | Free event
Community Arts Partnership is pleased to offer this free writing workshop with Deirdre Cartmill as part of its Poetry in Motion Community project. Previous projects have resulted in the publications “The Poet’s Place” and “moment”. This year, poets are invited to explore the word “still”.
Under Deirdre’s guidance, participants will have the opportunity to begin the process of creating a poem which can then be submitted through the open submissions process for consideration for the forthcoming anthology.
The workshop will be complemented by a reading, in the evening, of works from the most recent anthology ‘moment’.
‘moments’ | 14th June 7pm | Free event
An evening of words from poets featured in the anthology ‘moment’ published by Community Arts Partnership.
These poems snatch snapshots of our existence and common experience. Through the intricate detailing of the personal, the universal is exposed. These moments are those that make homes, families, love affairs and memories. These are our struggles and celebrations, reflections and regrets. These moments pose questions and offer answers.
Here is sadness, mourning and melancholy juxtaposed with happier or humorous times, past, present and future. Together, these are the moments that combine to build our histories and connect us through collective understanding.
Many of the poems were collected via public submission; many others were conceived in writing workshops conducted by Community Arts Partnership’s poet facilitators. The event will provide an open invitation to all to explore the notion of Moment.
Moment and Still are Poetry in Motion for Community projects, Community Arts Partnership’s programme encouraging engagement with creative writing and promoting local poets and writers.
Staying with poetry there is also the Belfast Book Festival Poetry Slam in partnership with Purely Poetry 14 June at 9pm.
